Our Donors, Their Stories

Our donors make all the difference.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation is constantly amazed at the generosity of its donors and the reasons they have for making a gift to the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Several of our donors have been extra generous in sharing their stories with us.

Mai Le Han

Mai Le Han is nonchalant when she sums up her reasons for donating to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

“It makes me happy.”

If that’s true, then Mai is one of the happiest people we know. Since 1996, she has faithfully donated to the Royal Alex as well as many other worthwhile charities here in Edmonton and around the world.

Darshan Lall

“I’m happiest when I’m giving to others.”

This is how Darshan Lall describes his motives for being a dedicated supporter of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation for more than 10 years. “I was a patient at the Royal Alex and I can tell you the care I received was excellent,” says Darshan. After I was a patient, it was even more important for me to give something.”

Richard Jenkins

The one word that comes up the most in conversation with Richard Jenkins about his reasons for giving is “grateful”.

“I’m grateful to the health system for taking care of my relatives – Aboriginal and otherwise. And that’s why I want to support the Royal Alex.”

Wendy & Terran Sandwith

Wendy and Terran Sandwith didn't plan on becoming such generous donors to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, but they also didn't plan on what happened to them over the Christmas season of 2006.

Their daughter Chloe arrived at the Royal Alexandra six weeks early on December 22. She weighed a respectable four pounds, thirteen ounces and was perfectly healthy.

They were astonished when it was Wendy who needed the critical care.
