FAQs
Q: How long has the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation been in operation?
A: The Foundation was established in 1984 and began active fundraising in 1991. That year, the Royal Alexandra Hospital appointed the Foundation's first volunteer Board of Directors, who then hired two staff to manage fund-raising activities.
Q: Why does the Hospital have a Foundation?
A: Since opening its doors more than 100 years ago, the Royal Alexandra Hospital has benefited from the contributions of thousands of individuals and organizations in the community. The Foundation provides a way to focus this support more efficiently and effectively towards the Hospital's priority needs.
Q: How does the Foundation raise money?
A: The Foundation engages in a broad range of fundraising programs, including direct
mail campaigns, planned giving, memorial gifts, community partnership initiatives and Full House Lottery.
Q: What kind of projects does the Foundation support?

Q: How can I donate to the Foundation?
A: There are many ways to make a gift to the Foundation, and they are all greatly appreciated. See our Ways to Donate section for more information.
Q: How much of my money will actually go to hospital programs and research?
The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation uses every dollar raised as efficiently as possible to provide the best treatment and care to our patients. We are proud to report our operating costs are well below the average of the not-for-profit fund raising sector.
Q: If I make a donation, do I get a tax receipt?
A: Yes. The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation is a registered charity (charitable business number 11912 6217 RR0001), and we will automatically issue tax receipt for all gifts over $10. Receipts are issued for the maximum allowable amount for event donations.
Q: Can I designate how my donation will be used?
Yes. You can make your donation to any area of the Royal Alexandra Hospital simply by stating your preference. However if you're undecided, an undesignated donation allows the hospital the flexibility to apply your gift to the area of greatest need.
Q: Shouldn't the government fund health care costs?
A: Advances in medical technology, population growth, increased demand on health care due to our aging population, and the need to renovate or replace aging infrastructure are just a few of the factors that influence health care costs. Governments use your tax dollars to meet these challenges and to maintain basic health care services.
The Foundation works with the hospital's administration, doctors and staff to ensure contributions are wisely used to fund programs not covered by government funding.
