Regional Eye Centre
Your Vision, Our Focus
Sight is an incredible gift - one we often take for granted. But imagine losing your vision to cataracts. Imagine suffering a devastating sports injury to the eye. Imagine discovering you need emergency surgery to repair a detached retina.
Imagine your eye sight was in jeopardy.
For the over 30,000 patients the Royal Alexandra Hospital's Ophthalmology department see annually, this is their reality.
The Regional Eye Centre provides leadership in the innovative treatment of diseases of the eye. Here, the Ophthalmology department offers patients the diagnosis, treatment and care they need to recover from conditions such as acute infections, cataracts, glaucoma, retinal conditions, hereditary eye disease, neuro-ophthalmology and trauma cases.

It was during an Oilers business trip to California in late November 2007 that Cal realized something was amiss with his vision. The "shady spots" he was starting to experience were hampering his ability to see clearly. |
The Regional Eye Centre is also affiliated with the University of Alberta's Department of Ophthalmology in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and as such, a major teaching and research facility. The University of Alberta's Tele-Ophthalmology Reading Centre is also housed at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, allowing improved access to diabetic eye care for northern Albertans using Telehealth technology.
