Help Provide Life-Changing Supplies to Those in Need
The Royal Alexandra Hospital serves a diverse group of patients from various socio-economic backgrounds, many of whom face challenges such as houselessness, addiction, and mental health issues. As one of the largest and busiest emergency departments in western Canada, the hospital treats patients who often lack basic necessities like clothing, hygiene products, or mobility aids—many arriving with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.
These unmet needs hinder the patients' healing journey and increase the likelihood of re-hospitalization, also placing strain on the healthcare system.
The Need
The Clothing Patients for Discharge Program is a pilot project that will support patients during their stay and following their discharge. It will help provide patients with what they need beyond just the hospital walls. Funding is required to launch this program which will allow us to provide vital items for individuals who need it most while also reducing the need for repeat visits.
How Your Donation Will Help
Your donation will support the Clothing Patients for Discharge program, which ensures that patients are equipped with essential items—such as warm jackets, shoes, hygiene products, and mobility aids—when they are discharged from the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
By providing these basic necessities, your support will not only improve a patient's dignity and well-being, but also lower the rate of rehospitalization, reducing the strain on our hospital and the wider healthcare system. The program helps patients transition more smoothly from the hospital back to their daily lives, enhancing their chances of a full recovery.
What Your Support Will Fund
Your contribution will fund staffing and equipment necessary to ensure the success of the Clothing Patients for Discharge program. This includes:
- Clothing: Providing clothing for patients, including warm jackets, proper footwear, and fresh socks and underwear.
- Prenatal Products: Supplying necessary equipment for pregnant mothers, such as maternity clothing, hygiene products, and nursing items.
- Everyday Essentials: Offering essential mobility aids like canes, and accessibility items such as reading glasses.
- Toiletries: Supplying toiletries to patients who lack these basic necessities.
This funding will ensure that the program can reach more patients and continue to support those in need as they leave the hospital and begin their recovery outside of it.
