As in previous years the 2016 Edmonton Eskimos Women's Dinner was once again a sell-out event! Those in attendance were thrilled to support the fight against ovarian cancer by contributing their funds to research that is working toward identifying an early detection discovery in ovarian cancer; a discovery that would save the lives of so many.
Through the generosity of attendees and the generosity of the event sponsors, the Edmonton Eskimos Women's Dinner team raised over $65,000 for the Edmonton Eskimos Women's Ovarian Cancer Research Endowment Fund at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. To date, the annual event has raised nearly a half million dollars.
The Eskimos Women's Dinner, presented by MacLab Enterprises, began in 2007 in honour of 21-year employee Pam Monastyrskyj who lost her battle with ovarian cancer two years earlier. In 2008, the Edmonton Eskimos Women's Ovarian Cancer Research Endowment Fund was set up to provide long-term, sustainable funding for researchers at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation could not be more thankful for the support this event and other fundraising initiatives the Eskimos organization have arranged over the years.
The evening was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Lois Elizabeth Mitchell and her greeting to the crowd was extremely well received. Her light-hearted and honest address was the perfect compliment to the unique fundraising event.
A heartfelt thank you from the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and the staff and researchers at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women for the incredible support received each year from the Edmonton Eskimos.
