Our Hospital, Our StoriesA Record-Breaking Giving Tuesday

Posted on: Dec 12, 2024

Discover how your support raised over $300,000 to break the cycle of houselessness—turning compassion into life-changing action.

Giving Tuesday is a global movement of generosity, bringing communities together to create meaningful change.  The extraordinary kindness and generosity of our donors truly were awe-inspiring.

Together, in this year's Giving Tuesday campaign, we raised $324,000 for the Bridge Healing Program, a record-breaking amount!

Thanks to your support and the incredible matching commitment from the Staheli family, every donation was multiplied fivefold, creating an extraordinary impact.

The Bridge Healing program is a transformative initiative that supports individuals discharged from the Emergency Department who face houselessness. Each year, more than 26,000 Albertans facing houselessness turn to emergency rooms for care. Far too often, they are discharged back into the same challenging conditions without the resources or support to break the cycle. Your donations are directly contributing to a solution.

The funds raised on Giving Tuesday will provide safe, transitional accommodations and community-based support for patients as they heal. By addressing their immediate needs and connecting them with resources for long-term stability, we are breaking the cycle of houselessness and giving our most vulnerable community members the dignity and care they deserve.

This year, the incredible generosity of Marjorie and Glen Staheli multiplied every dollar donated by five, up to $250,000. The Staheli family’s commitment to the Bridge Healing program is deeply personal. Their son Nathan struggled with addiction and houselessness for years, and despite his determination, his life came to a heartbreaking end. Nathan’s story is one of heartache but also of hope—hope that others will have access to the care and resources he didn’t.

“A system like Bridge Healing can be so meaningful and helpful to people dealing with addiction or homelessness. To provide so many ways to help a person, and to provide it in a community with other people like them, where they can hear and see a success story, it offers people hope that something can also be done for them.”  – Marjorie & Glen Staheli
