February is Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and supporting advancements in cardiac care. During this month, we at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation focus our efforts on expanding the care provided by the CK Hui Heart Centre and celebrating the achievements and innovations made possible thanks to the support donors provide during this time.

Please join us in extending our deepest gratitude to those donors, sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and participants who helped make 2025’s Heart Month a triumph—and raising over $126,000 total for heart health initiatives!

This year, Heart Month featured a whirlwind of events and occasions held in support of heart health that deserve special recognition…

We kicked off the month with a special Heart Month edition of Between Us on February 6th, where Dr. Colleen Norris, Cavarzan Chair of Women’s Health Research, delivered an insightful presentation on women’s heart health, sparking conversation on what advancements and research are being done in support of the unique challenges women face in cardiac care. By helping shed light on these topics and the work being done to address them, it set a powerful tone for the rest of the month.

Heart Month continued with additional support from outside the Foundation. First, on February 13th, we were proud to be a part of the second annual Gala-entine’s Day, hosted by the University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing.

This celebratory evening brought together champions of women’s health with a common goal of supporting equitable cardiovascular research and care for women. It was an inspiring evening, helping to show the value of collaboration and advocacy for the challenges women face in cardiac care.

It didn’t stop there. We were also honoured to be chosen as the charity of choice for Rock Jungle’s Charity Climb. Their event raised $2,225 for the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and the CK Hui Heart Centre, and we are incredibly grateful to Rock Jungle and all the participants of their Charity Climb for their support.

On February 22nd, doctors, nurses, and caregivers from the CK Hui Heart Centre also joined in the efforts of Heart Month, participating in the Listen to Your Heart event at West Edmonton Mall. This initiative offered free, easy-to-access care for all individuals who wished to have their heart health assessed.

Over 300 people partook, and 50 individuals received referrals for further screening at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, helping to ensure their heart receives the diagnoses and care it needs. With heart disease being one of the leading health concerns worldwide, early detection is key in preventing more severe complications from developing, and thanks to the incredible staff of the CK Hui, we were able to make it as accessible as ever this Heart Month.

The festivities were capped off with a special one-of-a-kind event: Heartbeat Hideaway. Held on February 20th, this speakeasy-inspired evening brought together leaders in healthcare and philanthropy in support of heart health at the CK Hui Heart Centre.

In a thrilling twist, the event took place simultaneously with the final of the Four Nations Faceoff, where Canada celebrated an overtime win, thus making the night’s events even greater! Altogether, Heartbeat Hideaway helped provide another $117,562 in funds in support of establishing an AV Node Ablation program within the CK Hui Heart Centre. A true highlight to cap off Heart Month.

Throughout the month, the support of our community was evident at every turn. Whether through participation and attendance at events, donations and support for the causes being promoted, or through spreading the word about heart health, every contribution helped make this year’s Heart Month a success.

Though Heart Month has come to an end for 2025, you can still help make a lasting impact on heart health by contributing to the CK Hui Heart Centre. Together, we can continue making a difference for years to come.
