Stories of HopeMore than $297,000 raised during the 2024 Shopper’s Drug Mart Run for Women
Posted on: Jun 05, 2024Among 18 Canadian cities, Edmonton ranks first with the highest number of participants for the 12th annual Shopper’s Drug Mart Run for Women.
On the sunny morning of May 25th, 2024, 2,892 participants gathered at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park with a shared commitment to advance women’s mental health, a historically underfunded sector of medicine. Our collective dedication to support our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends raised over $297,000 for women’s mental health initiatives at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women! This marks a significant achievement that will help fund life-changing research and programs.

We are incredibly grateful for the leadership and support that Shoppers Drug Mart has shown to women’s mental health since the launch of the run 12 years ago. They continue to use their platform to create awareness and fund positive change for women’s mental health research and care.
Women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with anxiety and depression disorders and more likely to be misdiagnosed or have their symptoms dismissed than their male counterparts. Additionally, only 3% of research across the globe explicitly addresses questions of women’s health.
Sharlene Rutherford, CEO of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, reminded the crowd to “run, walk, and roll with purpose and knowledge that our efforts today will bring change for a better tomorrow.”
Through fundraising efforts, the Lois Hole Hospital for Women has proudly supported the creation of the HOPE Digital Mental Health Platform which provides women access to screening, referral, and treatment plans for mental health issues. In further support of women’s mental health, the Antepartum Tea for Two program was launched to provide women experiencing high-risk pregnancies at the Lois Hole Hospital the opportunity to create meaningful connection together.
