The second annual Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women took place on Saturday May 30 at Sir Wilfred Laurier Park in Edmonton.  Despite some chilly spring weather, over 1500 people attended to show their support for women’s mental health.

There were tutus, tiaras and plenty of pink and purple as participants had the option of running or walking as they made a difference for the 1 in 3 women who will suffer from some type of mental illness in their lifetime.

The Run for Women is a fun and courageous event that takes place in cities all across Canada and is raising awareness and significant funds for this important area of care.  Over $90,000 was raised this past weekend in Edmonton, marking a new record across the country.

These funds will support the Reproductive Mental Health Program at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. This program encompasses the vision of offering women compassionate care addressing the important connection between their physical and mental well being.

“On behalf of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women I wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to Shoppers Drug Mart for sponsoring this important women’s health initiative and to everyone who participated or volunteered,” said Sharlene Rutherford, Vice President, Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation. “By signing up and lacing up, you helped raise significant funds that directly support women facing mental health issues in our community. With each step you have made a difference, and for that we are truly grateful.”
