The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation held its inaugural Wills Week this October—a week that inspired much generosity, raising over $12,216 through an art sale held in the hospital's atrium. The art was generously donated from an estate and gave hospital supporters, staff, and community members the opportunity to give directly to the future of healthcare while acquiring meaningful pieces.
A thoughtfully curated experience, Wills Week included live music to create a welcoming atmosphere with lunchtime performances that lifted the spirits of attendees and hospital staff. Wills Week also provided a unique opportunity to learn more about the Royal Willow Society and the hospital's partnership with Willfora, a platform offering free will creation services.
An evening reception during the week sparked deep conversations around the impact of legacy giving and the importance of building a secure future for healthcare. Keynote speakers shared their personal connections to the hospital, moving attendees to consider the lasting impact of their support.
Janie Clink, Senior Operating Officer for the Royal Alexandra Hospital, inspired the audience by illustrating how donations can help fund groundbreaking initiatives like obtaining the MOSES 2.0 Laser, which would be Alberta's first and Canadas second, revolutionizing urological care. Janie Clink also shared exciting plans to expand the Allard Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Clinic, aiming to reduce wait times and improve access to life-saving treatments for those at high-risk of hereditary cancer.
Andrew Otway, Director of Planned Giving, shared his appreciation for attendees’ support, stating, “As we grow this incredible community of legacy donors, we pave the way for a future in healthcare we never imagined. Each gift strengthens our mission and helps us serve our patients with compassion and excellence through investments in state-of-the-art technology and enhanced patient care. We are thrilled to welcome all to this community, where your contributions make a lasting impact on healthcare for all.”
Wills Week didn’t just highlight the importance of legacy giving but also united the community in a shared commitment to the future of healthcare. Through ongoing support, the Royal Alexandra Hospital will continue to grow and provide world-class care to Albertans now and for generations to come. The Foundation is deeply grateful for the community’s participation and generosity during Wills Week and looks forward to an even more impactful event next year.
